DICKS, Lowell A. - Putnam

Lowell A. Dicks, 83 years old, a native of Putnam County and resident of Plainfield the last 10 years, died yesterday in a Plainfield Nursing Home.  Mr. Dicks was a Putnam County farmer most of his life. He specialized in the breeding of Poland China hogs and registered Hereford cattle.  In 1939, he won an award for growing the largest ear of corn in Indiana.  He was a member of Plainfield Methodist Church and Fillmore Odd Fellows Lodge and was a charter member of the Indiana Farm Bureau and a former member of its board of directors.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Fillmore Methodist Church with burial in Fillmore Cemetery.  Friends may call at Hall Funeral Home at Plainfield.  Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Nova Dicks; two daughters, Mrs. Ralph DeBord and Mrs. Don Wells, both of Indianapolis; two brothers, John Dicks of Greenwood and Sherman Dicks of Indianapolis; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Noffsinger of Greencastle, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.  -kbz
